Southern Christian Leadership Conference Founded

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was founded in Atlanta under the leadership of Martin Luther King Jr., following the success of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The SCLC organized Black churches as the institutional backbone of the civil rights movement, providing funding, coordination, and moral authority.
