Romare Bearden Begins 'Prevalence of Ritual' Collage Series

Bearden's photomontage collages drawing on African masks, jazz culture, and Southern Black life became the defining visual art of the civil rights era. The Projections series was exhibited at Cordier & Ekstrom Gallery and established Bearden as one of America's greatest visual artists.
