Voting Rights Act of 1965 Signed into Law

The landmark legislation outlawing discriminatory voting practices — literacy tests, poll taxes, grandfather clauses — and providing federal oversight of elections in states with histories of discrimination. It directly resulted from Bloody Sunday and the Selma to Montgomery marches.
