Muhammad Ali Refuses Draft Induction, Stripped of Heavyweight Title

Ali refused induction into the US Army on religious grounds: 'I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong.' Within hours he was stripped of his boxing license and heavyweight title by every state athletic commission. He faced five years in prison and was not cleared by the Supreme Court until 1971.
