Faith Ringgold Begins 'American People' Painting Series

Ringgold's series of 20 paintings depicting racial tension in American life — including 'Die' (1967), depicting race-war violence — applied the flat graphic style of African and folk art to confrontational civil rights subject matter. She was also a prominent activist fighting for Black women's inclusion in major museums.
