James Brown Releases 'Say It Loud — I'm Black and I'm Proud'

Recorded one month after King's assassination, Brown's declaration of Black pride and self-determination reached #10 pop and #1 R&B. The call-and-response recording featuring a chorus of Black children became the anthem of the Black Power era.
