Melvin Van Peebles Directs 'Story of a Three-Day Pass' in France

Van Peebles's debut feature — made in France with French financing, shot in French, and selected as France's entry at the San Francisco International Film Festival — depicted a Black US soldier's affair with a French woman. It launched the career of the man who would create 'Sweet Sweetback' and establish independent Black cinema.
