San Francisco State Establishes First Black Studies Department

After the longest campus strike in US history — led by the Third World Liberation Front and the Black Student Union — San Francisco State College established the first School of Ethnic Studies and the nation's first Black Studies department, with Nathan Hare as its first coordinator.
