Nina Simone Releases 'To Be Young, Gifted and Black'

Written by Simone and Weldon Irvine as a tribute to Lorraine Hansberry, the song became an anthem of Black pride in education and potential. Simone performed it at Carnegie Hall and it was adopted by SNCC as its youth anthem.
