National Black Women's Health Project Founded

Byllye Avery founds the National Black Women's Health Project in Atlanta, the first organization devoted to the physical and mental health concerns of Black women. The organization pioneers the self-help model and draws attention to reproductive rights, hypertension, and obesity as racial health disparities.
