Campaign to Create National Museum of African American History Intensifies

Black lawmakers led by John Lewis and Tom Mack introduce legislation to establish a National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall. Though the museum does not open until 2016, the 1980s campaign builds the legislative foundation for what becomes the most visited Smithsonian museum.
