Anton Wilhelm Amo Publishes Landmark Philosophical Treatise

Amo's 'Dissertatio inauguralis philosophica de humanae mentis apatheia' argues that the human mind is immaterial and cannot experience sensation — a position engaging Descartes, Leibniz, and contemporary empiricists. Written in Latin at the University of Wittenberg, it is one of the most sophisticated philosophical works produced in 18th-century Germany by any author.
