Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters Wins Union Contract
After twelve years of organizing, A. Philip Randolph's Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters secured a collective bargaining agreement with the Pullman Company — the first major labor contract won by a predominantly Black union in American history. The victory validated Randolph as a national civil rights leader and demonstrated the power of organized Black labor.
