Byron Allen acquires The Weather Channel for $300 million

Comedian-turned-media mogul Byron Allen acquired The Weather Channel from IBM for $300 million in January 2018 through his Allen Media Group. The deal made Allen one of the most powerful Black media owners in America, controlling television stations reaching nearly every U.S. household and demonstrating that Black entrepreneurs could compete at the very top of mainstream media ownership.
