Dorothy Height leads National Council of Negro Women

Dorothy Height became president of the National Council of Negro Women in 1957 and led it for four decades, making it one of the most powerful advocacy organizations in America. Known as the 'godmother of the civil rights movement,' she organized the first interracial meetings at the White House and fought simultaneously for racial and gender equality at a time when mainstream civil rights leadership often sidelined women.
