Ella Fitzgerald Records A-Tisket A-Tasket, Becomes Major Star

Fitzgerald co-wrote and recorded 'A-Tisket, A-Tasket' with Chick Webb's band; it was the best-selling record of 1938 and spent 17 weeks at No. 1. The song made Fitzgerald the most recognized young female vocalist in America and, after Webb's death in 1939, she took over leadership of the band.
