J. Ernest Wilkins Jr. joins Manhattan Project at age 19

J. Ernest Wilkins Jr., who had earned his PhD in mathematics from the University of Chicago at age 19, joined the Manhattan Project's Metallurgical Laboratory. He went on to become one of the most distinguished nuclear engineers and mathematicians in American history, making foundational contributions to nuclear reactor design and radiation shielding theory.
