Fisk Jubilee Singers Tour Europe and Save the University

The Fisk Jubilee Singers embarked on their first fundraising tour in 1871, performing African American spirituals for white audiences across America and Europe. Singing for Queen Victoria in 1873, they raised enough money to build Jubilee Hall — Fisk's first permanent building. They brought spirituals to international attention as a distinct American art form.
