Floyd Patterson Becomes World Heavyweight Boxing Champion
Floyd Patterson knocked out Archie Moore on November 30, 1956 to claim the vacant world heavyweight boxing championship, becoming at 21 the youngest heavyweight champion in history at that time. After losing the title to Ingemar Johansson in 1959, he became the first heavyweight champion ever to regain the title. Patterson was also a prominent civil rights supporter throughout his career.
