Frederick Douglass and Ida B. Wells Publish 'The Reason Why'

Frederick Douglass and Ida B. Wells co-authored and distributed a pamphlet titled 'The Reason Why the Colored American Is Not in the World's Columbian Exposition,' exposing the systematic exclusion of Black Americans from the Chicago World's Fair. Douglass, at age 75, also presided over 'Colored People's Day' at the fair, using the platform to demand full civil equality. The pamphlet stands as a major document of protest against institutionalized racism.
