FUBU founded — hip-hop streetwear goes from Queens to $6 billion
Daymond John and three friends from Hollis, Queens, founded FUBU ("For Us By Us") in 1992, sewing hats in a bedroom. Through a breakthrough moment at a LL Cool J shoot and distribution from Samsung, FUBU grew to over $6 billion in global sales by 1998, proving that Black-owned streetwear brands could compete at the highest levels of the global fashion industry.
