George Washington Carver Transforms Southern Agriculture
George Washington Carver at Tuskegee Institute spent the early 1900s developing and publishing his landmark agricultural bulletins, teaching poor Southern farmers — Black and white — to diversify crops beyond cotton using peanuts, sweet potatoes, and other plants. His research into crop rotation helped revive depleted Southern soil and provided economic alternatives for sharecroppers. Carver became internationally recognized as one of the most innovative agricultural scientists of his time.
