Howard University Medical School Opens, Training First Black Physicians

Howard University School of Medicine opens in Washington, D.C., becoming the primary institution training Black doctors in an era when nearly all medical schools barred them. By 1900 it had graduated hundreds of Black physicians, dentists, and pharmacists who served communities across the segregated South.
