The Ink Spots Form in New York City

The Ink Spots formed as a vocal harmony group in New York, pioneering a style that blended crooning, spoken-word interludes, and close harmony that would directly influence the development of rhythm and blues and doo-wop. Their recordings in the late 1930s and 1940s became massive crossover hits, making them one of the first Black groups to achieve mainstream white American popularity.
