John Coltrane Joins the Miles Davis Quintet
John Coltrane joined the Miles Davis Quintet in late 1955, beginning one of the most celebrated partnerships in jazz history and launching Coltrane's own development as a revolutionary soloist. The quintet's recordings together introduced a new modal approach to jazz improvisation that would culminate in the landmark album 'Kind of Blue.' Coltrane's tenure with Davis gave him the platform and creative environment to develop the 'sheets of sound' technique that defined his early mature style.
