Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin Founds the Woman's Era — First Black Women's Newspaper

Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin launched The Woman's Era in Boston in 1894, the first newspaper published for and by Black women in the United States. It connected women's clubs nationally and built the organizational network that led to the founding of the National Association of Colored Women two years later.
