Langston Hughes publishes The Weary Blues

Hughes' debut collection, incorporating blues and jazz rhythms into poetry for the first time, redefined the possibilities of American verse and made him the central poet of the Harlem Renaissance. His manifesto 'The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain,' published the same year, articulated the aesthetic principles of the entire movement.
