Larry Doby becomes first Black player in the American League

Larry Doby signed with the Cleveland Indians just 11 weeks after Jackie Robinson broke the National League color barrier, integrating the American League. Doby faced intense racial hostility but went on to become a two-time All-Star and helped Cleveland win the 1948 World Series, paving the way for full integration of Major League Baseball.
