Mae C. Jemison becomes first Black woman in space

Physician and engineer Mae C. Jemison launched aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour (STS-47), becoming the first Black woman to travel to space. She conducted scientific experiments during the eight-day mission and later founded a technology company, becoming a prominent advocate for science education and diversity in STEM.
