Mansa Musa Sponsors Construction of the Great Mosque of Djenné

Returning from Mecca flush with inspiration from Islamic architecture, Mansa Musa sponsors construction of major mosques in Timbuktu and supports the Great Mosque of Djenné — built in Sudano-Sahelian style using mud brick and wooden beams. This architectural tradition, unique to the Sahel, still defines the region's skyline and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
