Marcus Garvey Arrives in the United States and Founds UNIA-ACL American Chapter

Marcus Mosiah Garvey arrived in New York City from Jamaica in 1916 and established a United States chapter of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). His Black nationalist movement would grow into the largest mass movement of Black people in American history, advocating Pan-Africanism, racial pride, and economic self-determination.
