Meharry Medical College Founded to Train Black Physicians

Meharry Medical College was founded in Nashville in 1876, the first medical school for Black students in the South. Together with Howard University Medical School, Meharry trained over 90 percent of all Black doctors in America through the late 19th century, serving communities with almost no access to white medical care.
