Monroe Trotter Founds the Boston Guardian
William Monroe Trotter co-founded the Boston Guardian, a newspaper that became the foremost militant voice challenging both white supremacy and Booker T. Washington's accommodationist politics. Trotter, a Harvard graduate, used the paper to advocate for full civil and political equality without compromise. The Guardian helped establish the tradition of the Black press as a vehicle for uncompromising civil rights advocacy.
