Ntozake Shange Premieres "For Colored Girls"
Ntozake Shange's choreopoem "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf" premiered off-Broadway before moving to Broadway in 1976, becoming one of the most celebrated works in American theater. The piece gave powerful voice to the experiences of Black women and remains a landmark of both feminist and African American literature.
