Ralph Bunche Joins Howard Faculty and Advises State Department

Political scientist Ralph Bunche, the first Black American to earn a Harvard Ph.D. in government, was advising the State Department on colonial affairs by 1936 while heading Howard's political science department. His access to federal foreign policy circles was unprecedented for a Black scholar of his generation.
