Sissieretta Jones Performs at the White House for President Harrison

Operatic soprano Sissieretta Jones, dubbed 'Black Patti' after Italian soprano Adelina Patti, performs at a White House reception for President Benjamin Harrison. Her four-octave voice had already triumphed at Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden. Though barred from the Metropolitan Opera by race, Jones became one of the highest-paid Black entertainers of the 19th century.
