Tuskegee Airmen Begin Flight Training at Moton Field

The Army Air Corps launched the segregated 99th Pursuit Squadron training program at Tuskegee, Alabama — forced on the military by NAACP pressure and the Selective Service Act's non-discrimination language. The first class of 13 cadets included Captain Benjamin O. Davis Jr., who would command the 332nd Fighter Group.
