Tyler Perry opens Tyler Perry Studios on historic Fort McPherson

On October 5, 2019, Tyler Perry opened Tyler Perry Studios on the grounds of the former Fort McPherson military base in Atlanta — a 330-acre campus that became the largest studio facility in the United States and the only major Hollywood studio owned by a Black American. The opening, attended by Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee, and other luminaries, was a landmark moment for Black ownership in the entertainment industry.
