W.E.B. Du Bois Produces the Atlanta University Studies on Black American Life
While at Atlanta University, W.E.B. Du Bois directed a series of sociological studies on Black American life from 1896 through the early 1900s, producing rigorous empirical research on health, business, education, and crime in Black communities. These studies were among the first scientific sociological surveys of Black America and established Du Bois as a pioneering American social scientist. The work provided the factual foundation for civil rights advocacy in the coming decades.
