William Whipper Founds American Moral Reform Society, Advocates Racial Integration
William Whipper, a prosperous Black businessman and lumberman in Columbia, Pennsylvania, was a founding organizer of the American Moral Reform Society in 1835, which advocated universal reform across racial lines rather than race-specific organizing. He also operated a station on the Underground Railroad and contributed to the Black press.
