Lloyd's was the global center for insuring Britain's slave-trading ships; it apologized in 2020.

For more than a century the Lloyd's market underwrote the ships and "cargoes" of the transatlantic slave trade. Lloyd's now acknowledges it "benefitted significantly from the trafficking of enslaved people" and issued a formal apology in 2020.
