Revolt Aboard the Slave Ship Nancy
Captives seized control of the British slave ship Nancy off the coast of West Africa in 1769. The crew retook the vessel after several days; surviving rebels were killed or re-enslaved. The Nancy revolt was documented in British Admiralty records and later cited by Granville Sharp in his abolitionist petitions. It illustrated that resistance during the Middle Passage was persistent, organized, and deadly on both sides.
