Freedom's Journal: First Black Newspaper Founded

Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm launch Freedom's Journal in New York City on March 16, 1827 — the first Black-owned newspaper in the US. Their founding statement: "We wish to plead our own cause; too long have others spoken for us." The paper covers slavery, colonization debates, Black community news, and arguments for full citizenship rights.
