Albany Movement Launched in Georgia

A coalition of SNCC, NAACP, and local organizations formed the Albany Movement in Albany, Georgia to challenge all forms of segregation. Led locally by William G. Anderson, the campaign saw over 500 arrests by December 1961. MLK joined in December but Albany's Police Chief Laurie Pritchett used nonviolent arrests to blunt momentum.
