In Algiers Point, armed vigilantes shot at Black evacuees trying to cross the neighborhood or reach a ferry. ProPublica's A.C. Thompson documented multiple shootings and at least one killing (reported 2008-2009). Victims described being turned back at gunpoint from evacuation routes. No one was charged.
