Central Park Five Sentenced Following Coerced Confessions
Korey Wise, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, and Antron McCray — teens aged 14–16 arrested in 1989 — were sentenced following convictions based on coerced confessions they later recanted. Donald Trump had taken out full-page ads in New York newspapers calling for reinstatement of the death penalty targeting the five. All were eventually exonerated in 2002.
