White Mobs Attack Chicago Open Housing Marchers in Marquette Park
Martin Luther King Jr. and hundreds of open housing marchers were attacked by white mobs throwing rocks, bottles, and cherry bombs in Marquette Park, Chicago. King was struck in the head by a rock. He later said he had never seen mobs 'as hostile and as hate-filled' as in Chicago. Mayor Richard Daley refused to ban racial deed restrictions.
