COVID Eviction Crisis Hits Black Renters at Disproportionate Rate
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Black renters faced eviction at significantly higher rates than white renters. Princeton Eviction Lab data showed Black renters were filed against at 2-4 times the rate of white renters in major cities. The CDC eviction moratorium was struck down by the Supreme Court in August 2021. Emergency rental assistance programs reached Black renters at lower rates due to bureaucratic barriers.
