Federal Civil Rights Trial Convicts Two Officers in King Case
A federal jury convicted LAPD officers Laurence Powell and Sgt. Stacey Koon of violating Rodney King's civil rights. Powell and Koon each received 30-month federal sentences. Officers Wind and Briseno were acquitted. The federal prosecution followed public outcry over the state court acquittals and was seen as a partial measure of accountability.
