National Black Political Convention Convenes in Gary, Indiana
Over 8,000 Black delegates convened in Gary, Indiana for the National Black Political Convention, chaired by Mayor Richard Hatcher, Amiri Baraka, and Congressman Charles Diggs. The convention adopted the Gary Declaration calling for Black political independence and a National Black Agenda, representing the broadest coalition of Black political forces since Reconstruction.
